This Friday is National Book Lovers Day so I thought I would take a break from my #2019ReadingChallenge #TypographyTuesday book quotes to post a quote from one of my favorite authors, JK Rowling.

While searching for quotes from JK I found this one and knew it was perfect! This past weekend my best friend and I were just talking about this very thing.

I didn’t really enjoy reading like I do until I found the right book. While I enjoyed reading books in class (and was often reading ahead), when it came time to read on my own I hadn’t found what I liked. I’d often read what my friends recommended or what was popular with others in my class, but I just couldn’t get into these books and would often struggle through because I HAD to finish it (I still struggle with this today, although I do think I’m getting better at it).

So what was the first book I found that I couldn’t put down? The Wind Blows Backward by Mary Downing Hahn. I remember being in 8th grade and my friend was reading it. She was so into it all she wanted to do was read during recess. Really?! She’d rather read than talk to me or shoot baskets? There’s no way a book could be that good, right?? Well I checked it out from the school library after she finished and I too could not put it down. (Based on the Goodreads reviews I’m not sure I’d still be as into it today, but I do own it so I’m thinking it’s time for a re-read).

I’d like to say that after this book I’d found what I liked and became the bookworm I am today, but that’s just not true. I still struggled to find books I liked and fell into the trap of struggling through what was popular or being made into a movie (also something I still struggle with, if it’s going to be a movie it has to be good right? Not so much). But I kept searching, kept reading, and eventually I found more books I liked. More books I couldn’t put down. More books I devoured.

TBH the movie book thing hasn’t always let me down. If it weren’t for A Walk to Remember I wouldn’t have found Nicholas Sparks until way later in life. I remember binge reading A Walk to Remember the whole road trip home from a family vacation (and it’s definitely not the last Nick Sparks book I’ve binged). Then in high school we had to read 1984 and my mind was blown. You would think here’s where I got into dystopian books, but no. I didn’t even realize that was a genre until after a friend recommended The Hunger Games in college. Now I think I’m pretty prepared for however the world is going to end, I don’t know that I’ll make it, but I could at least talk some teenage girl through how to survive and overthrow the government. I have to also mention Twilight. I was obsessed (not OBSESSED obsessed, but more than I’d like to admit). I definitely wouldn’t have gotten into fantasy books if it weren’t for Twilight. I wouldn’t have read as many books about vampires or werewolves or fairies, and yes, I’m in my 30s, but those are some of my favorite books.

And then there’s Harry Potter. I can’t even put into words what I feel for that series or tell you how many copies of it I own 😬🙃

Now I like to think I’ve pretty much got it figured out, but I’m still surprising myself. I just recently discovered I enjoy audiobooks and my tastes are always expanding, True Crime and Biographies?! Who would’ve thought!

Book 19: The 100 by Kass Morgan

The 100 is set way in the future. I remember laughing out loud when I read this line. The idea that in the future they will have confused Rapunzel and Pinocchio is just so funny and interesting to me. Also TBH I don’t know that having my hair grow when I lie would teach me not to do it. So maybe don’t get those two confused future humans.

Also couldn’t decide which layout I liked best so posting them both. 😊
